What’s asset development?

It’s how the poor get rich, dude.  It’s how we stick it to the man!

Okay, it’s actually just “developing savings and asset accumulation mechanisms that are inclusive of the whole population,” so says the way-smarter-than-I-am folks at the Center for Social Development.  Asset development work generally targets low-income families, often providing matched savings accounts, first time home buyer assistance (read my advice here), small business training and resources, and support for post-secondary education.

Check out the work being done at CFED, a national leader in asset development.  Read the book that launched the field, Assets and the Poor: A New American Welfare Policy.  And keep reading my blog to hear the latest news and break-throughs that I happen to find out about.
